Starting therapy can be a difficult step to take but finding someone who is able to understand can feel like a relief. I believe we do have the capacity to change our lives even when, at times, it can feel that we are stuck or powerless. If you are ready to start your journey then please, read on.

The basis of my work is to help you identify the challenges and setbacks in your life so that you can overcome them and move on.
There are many reasons for seeking help. You may need a safe space to work through a specific problem or sudden change in your personal life or in a significant relationship. Or you may be concerned with difficult dynamics, destructive patterns and their impact upon your personal well-being.
Each individual is, of course, unique and so is the purpose of each persons therapy.
I warmly welcome people from all walks of life and from different backgrounds.

Counselling and Psychotherapy offers you the opportunity to explore issues which affect you with an experienced therapist; to help you find ways of dealing with difficult issues and circumstances and make changes to enable you to lead a more fulfilling life.

What kind of issues?

People come with a broad range of issues including;

  • Bereavement and loss

  • Difficulties at home or work

  • Eating Disorders

  • Life transitions

  • Loneliness

  • Low self-esteem

  • Relationship problems

  • Stress

Counselling or Psychotherapy?

Whilst the terms are often used interchangeably, counselling is generally a shorter term therapy, dealing with specific issues or events that you currently find difficult. Psychotherapy is longer term, helping individuals understand themselves and their patterns of behaviours and if they wish - to make changes.

How many sessions are required?

This depends very much on the individual, the issues being looked at and the pace in which people work, everyone is different.

6 sessions is fairly common however some people need longer.

We would discuss this at the initial session and can always review it.

Is it confidential?

Yes, however if I am concerned about your safety or the safety of others I may need to liaise with other professionals. This would be part of our agreed contract.

My Story

Trusted Counselling Professional

I have been working as a certified Counselling Professional since 2003, taking breaks along the way to deal with what life has thrown at me!

I initially trained as a General Nurse in Harrogate before working in Cardiology in Newcastle. I developed a keen interest not only in people's physical health but also in their mental and emotional well-being. This led me to undertake a Diploma in Mental Health followed by a BSc in Edinburgh before then going on to train as a Person-centred Counsellor... the most challenging of all!

I specialise in helping people identify and achieve their personal goals by coping with the issues that are causing them upset, anxiety, and stress.

I personally know how hard it can be to take the first steps on a new path but if you are reading this, perhaps it is time to make the change.

The first session will be a getting to know you session, to see if we think we would like to work together. Thereafter we can agree on a set number of sessions or work together and review at set times.

I am fairly flexible in my approach.
